Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was placed under house arrest on Friday ahead of a joint protest called by both the factions of Hurriyat Conference and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF).
Forces have been deployed in strength outside the Jamia Masjid where Mirwaiz addresses the Friday gathering to prevent protests.
Raids have been carried out on the residencies of various other leaders of the Hurriyat.
Hurriyat (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani continues to be under house arrest while JKLF Chief Yasin Malik is lodged in Central Jail Srinagar.
The leaders had jointly called for protest today and waving of black flags at district and Tehsil headquarters to protest against the government moves to build separate townships for migrant Pandits and a colony for ex-servicemen.
They said these townships and colonies would create walls of hatred between the two communities.(Agencies)
