More autonomy should be given to higher educational institutions : Rao

Jaipur, (UNI): Director of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, Prof. V. Ramgopal Rao said that India ranks third in the world in terms of research, only behind China and USA, he was giving a virtual address in the 31st episode of Jhabramalla Sharma Memorial Lecture Series organized by the Patrika Group on Tuesday.

Expenditure for research is only 0.6-0.7 percent of the GDP, despite this, the country is ahead in spending per dollar on research, he said. He felt that the problem is that knowledge is not getting converted into income.
He underlined that those Indian higher educational institutions which are not run by ministers are ranked high.

Prof. Rao gave the mantra of local participation and global reach (Local Engagement and Global Network) for higher education institutions to advance in research, he focused the lecture on the need of self-reliant India and the need for higher education institutions.

Prof. Rao said that with the reduction of costs of the farmer with nano urea, production will increase and the environment will be saved. He said that if there is a national policy to connect IITs and engineering colleges of the states, then hundreds of joint projects will be made.

Prof Rao advised that Good start ups of rural area should send proposals to IIT Delhi, Group Deputy Editor of Patrika Group Bhuvnesh Jain said in welcome address that the trust of readers and viewers is keeping the Patrika group on top. The group also always adopted the principles of credibility, fairness and fearlessness, he emphasised.
