A shockwave gripped the ‘City of Temples’ after the body of a teenage Karateka was found here under mysterious circumstances.
Karatik Sharma, 19, a resident of Sarwal, Jammu, was mysteriously found dead on Monday morning in Old University Campus Lane.
“The body was found lying along the roadside. One of the feet of the deceased had injury marks and was frothing from the mouth,” police said.
“Inquest proceedings have been initiated under Section 174 of the CrPC, and an investigation is in progress. We have rounded up one suspect,” said police.
The sports fraternity has mourned the demise of the taekwondo player.
“He was a brilliant player and had to visit Korea next month to participate in the Championship,” Atul Pangotra, his coach, said.
He added that the deceased had been training for the last 4 to 5 years and was very devoted and hardworking.
“After his father’s death, he got the job in the police department under the SRO and had to join the force in the next few days,” said Pangotra.
Meanwhile, the sports fraternity is in shock over his death and has demanded a probe into the case.
The family of the deceased smelt foul play behind his death and appealed to the police to hold a fair and transparent investigation.
The deceased was cremated at Purmandal, and the last rites were attended by a large number of people.
