Nagrota by-polls: Late BJP MLA’s daughter, ex-J&K minister among 9 in fray

Nine candidates, including the daughter of former BJP MLA late Devender Singh Rana and former Minister from Jammu and Kashmir Harsh Dev Singh are among the candidates in the fray in Nagrota assembly by-polls.


Nagrota will vote on November 11 and the scrutiny of nominations is scheduled for today. The withdrawal of nominations is due October 24. Monday was the last date for filing nominations.


Counting of votes will take place on November 14. The Nagrota seat was vacated due to the death of BJP MLA Devender Singh Rana on October 31, 2024.


The Budgam seat fell vacant on October 21, 2024 after Chief Minister Omar Abdullah chose to retain Ganderbal constituency following his victory from both seats in 2024 Assembly elections.


The BJP has fielded Devyani Rana, daughter of Devender Singh Rana, who is facing a tough challenge from the National Conference candidate and District Development Council member Shamim Begum.


Moreover, former J&K minister Harsh Dev Singh is another prominent candidate in the fray besides BJP rebel and Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference president Anil Sharma, who is contesting as an Independent.


AAP leader Joginder Singh is also in the fray along with four other Independents.
