National Games: Jammu Div Comm flags off contingent 139 athletes from 18 disciplines

The Divisional Commissioner Jammu Ramesh Kumar on Wednesday flagged off the contingent of 139 athletes from 18 disciplines for participation in the 37th National Games scheduled to be held at Goa from October 26 to November 9.

The Divisional Commissioner in his address to the athletes remarked, “the National Games is one of the prestigious and major events of our National sports calendar and is a core platform for sportspersons to prove their talent for international events.”

“Hard work, dedication and discipline are the qualities of a great sports person and I am sure our athletes will inculcate these qualities in themselves and bring laurels to the UT J&K’’, he added.

SP North Jammu City, Kulbir Handa, who was the guest of honour on the occasion also congratulated the selected athletes and wished them best of luck for the event.

Earlier Member of J&K UT Sports Council Ranjeet Kalra highlighted the efforts being made by the Sports Council in providing infrastructure and coaching support to the players.

He also conveyed good wishes to the contingent on behalf of Lieutenant Governor and President of the Sports Council Manoj Sinha, Advisor to LG J&K and Vice President J&K Sports Council, RR Bhatnagar, Commissioner Secretary, Youth Services and Sports Department Sarmad Hafeez and Secretary Sports Council Nuzhat Gul.

Member Sports Council Bhanu Pratap Singh along with Chief Sports Officer, J&K Sports Council Mohammad Hanief, Divisional Sports Officer Jammu, Baljinder Pal Singh and Managers, Incharges, Coaches, Mentors of Jammu district were present at the flagging off ceremony.
