Former New Zealand all-rounder Doug Bracewell has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket, calling time on a career that saw him serve the Black Caps across formats for more than a decade.
The 35-year-old featured in 69 international matches for New Zealand, including 28 Tests, and finished his red-ball career with 74 wickets.
Bracewell’s name is etched in New Zealand cricket folklore for his match-winning performance against Australia in Hobart in 2011, where he claimed nine wickets in the match to script a memorable seven-run victory.
Bracewell also represented the Black Caps in white-ball cricket, making 41 appearances across ODIs and T20Is. He was part of New Zealand’s squad at the 2012 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup and contributed regularly as a seam-bowling all-rounder during his international stint.
His last appearance for New Zealand came in a Test against Sri Lanka in Wellington in 2023. A rib injury later curtailed his domestic campaign with Central Districts, ultimately leading to his decision to step away from the game.
“It’s been a proud part of my life, and something I aspired to as a young cricketer,” ICC quoted Bracewell as saying via a statement from Central Districts. “I will always be grateful for the opportunities I have had through cricket, and the chance to play for my country, as well as for Central Districts, throughout my domestic career.”
“It’s a privilege to play first-class and international cricket, and I’m grateful to have played and enjoyed the game for as long as I have,” he added.
