Night Temperature Increases In Kashmir Parts, Gulmarg Freezes At Minus 9.6 Degree Celsius

Srinagar: The world famous ski-resort, Gulmarg, continued to record freezing night temperature where the mercury settled at 9.6 degree Celsius while in other parts of the Valley, minimum temperature has increased, MeT officials said on Monday.

According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Director Meteorological department (MeT), Sonum Lotus said that there is no forecast of major snowfall anywhere in coming days.

However, he said that there is a possibility of light snowfall on Jan 18-19, but the system can witness change also.

Deputy Director MeT, Mukhtar Ahmad also stated that the prediction for Jan 18-19 can be cleared in the coming days.

Nonetheless, as compared to previous night, the night temperature recorded an increase at almost every place barring Gulmarg, MeT spokesman said.

He said in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, the mercury last night settled at minus 0.2 degree Celsius.

The mercury at Pahalgam also recorded an increase and the minimum temperature there settled at minus 4.6 degree Celsius.

Ahmad, however, said that the night temperature may witness further dip once the cloudy weather conditions end—(KNO)
