Nine killed, 5 injured as tanker overturns on tempo

Nine persons were killed and five others injured when a tanker overturned on a tempo in Leelapur area of Pratapgarh district here in Uttar Pradesh on Monday,

a senior officer said.

Police sources said that five of the deceased have been identified as Harikesh Shrivastava (63), Satish (26), Sheetla (40), Mohammad Raees (45) and Gulshan Begum.

District Magistrate Prakash Chandra Shrivastava said that the incident took place in Mohanganj where a gas tanker overturned on the tempo.

“Nine persons have been killed in the incident and five others were injured, who after first aid, have been referred to a higher center in Prayagraj,” he said.

He said that the tanker was returning to Rae Bareli after unloading gas.

“A technical team has been called to examine the spot along with the tanker,” he said.

The DM said that a financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh each to the kin of deceased and Rs 50,000

will be given to the injured as per the directives of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
