Deputy Chief Minister Surindar Chowdhary on Monday asserted that the government will not tolerate illegal mining and warned of strict action against those involved, including officials facilitating such activities.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a review meeting on developmental works in Baramulla, the Deputy CM reiterated the administration’s firm stance against illegal mining.
“There will be no compromise on illegal mining. Those involved will face action, and even officials found facilitating such activities will not be spared,” he said, according to news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS).
He assured strict action against violators and stated that a special committee has been formed to tackle the issue effectively.
Illegal mining has been a growing concern in various parts of Jammu and Kashmir, with reports of unauthorized extraction causing environmental degradation and revenue losses for the government.
The Deputy CM’s remarks come amid increasing demands for stricter enforcement against illegal mining activities in Baramulla and other districts. Authorities have been urged to intensify monitoring and take concrete steps to curb the menace.
The Deputy Chief Minister also acknowledged the hardships faced by people due to cross-border firing since 1947. “We hope to see an end to these suffering at the earliest,” he added. (KINS) Arshad Farooq
