As the Supreme Court of India began hearing the petitions, challenging the scrapping of Article 370 from Wednesday, former chief minister Omar Abdullah today said that they are hopeful to get justice from the Supreme Court, saying this is one of the biggest questions on J&K that has come to top court after Independence.
“We are hopeful of justice. We are here on behalf of the people of J&K, and from the beginning, we believed that whatever happened on August 5, 2019, was unconstitutional and illegal. This is one of the biggest questions on J&K that has come to the Supreme Court after the Independence,” Omar Abdullah said in New Delhi, according to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).
He said they have knocked the doors the Supreme Court to seek justice.
Talking to reporters, Omar also said that BJP is not ready to face the people of Jammu & Kashmir and are hiding behind the Election Commission of India (ECI).
“BJP makes big statements inside their offices and accuses us, but they are not ready to face the people, this is cowardice. Let them come in field and we will see who stands where”, he said.
Meanwhile, former CM Mehbooba Mufti said entire world is watching Supreme Court proceedings on Article 370, saying that Supreme Court is the only institution left in the country that can ensure that India is governed as per its Constitution.
She said the Supreme Court remains the only institution that can save the Constitution, saying that the BJP is not only playing with the Constitution based on its “brute majority” in Parliament but ignoring everything including the SC rulings
