SRINAGAR: Following the remarks of former Trinamool Congress minister and now BJP candidate Suvendu Adhikari that West Bengal would “become Kashmir” if TMC came to power, National Conference leader Omar Abdullah has issued a rejoinder on Twitter.

“But according to you BJP wallas Kashmir has become paradise after August 2019 so what’s wrong with West Bengal becoming Kashmir? Anyway, Bengalis love Kashmir & visit us in large numbers so we forgive you your stupid, tasteless comment,” Omar tweeted.

His remarks on Sunday came as Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Kolkata, where he was joined on stage by actor Mithun Chakraborty. On Saturday, Adhikari said at a rally in Muchipara, Behala, “If Shyama Prasad Mukherjee was not there, this country would have been an Islamic country and we would be living in Bangladesh. If they [TMC] came back to power, West Bengal will become Kashmir. (PTK)
