Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday defended the resolution that was passed by the Assembly which sought restoration of Special Status for Jammu & Kashmir.
Speaking during the motion of thanks to the Lieutenant Governor’s address on the last day of the Assembly session, he said the resolution reflects the will of the people while avoiding outright rejection by the central government.
“We chose our words carefully to keep dialogue open with any future government. This resolution has given people a glimmer of hope,” Omar said.
The Chief Minister said that ”had this resolution been weak or diluted, the Prime Minister, Home Minister or other senior ministers wouldn’t mention it in their speeches and targeting them”.
”If this resolution was a compromise or weak, nobody would speak about it. They would have been silent. Their mentioning of the resolution is a proof that the J&K assembly resolution passed is in reality a historic resolution and doors are opened with it and not shut,” Omar said.
He said they don’t have high expectations from the present central government.
“But this Government won’t remain the same forever. Tomorrow, there will be a change,” he added.
The CM noted that “people have regained their voice and can now speak freely. We felt stifled and unable to express ourselves, but this resolution has encouraged people to talk and debate openly.”
The BJP legislators boycotted the final day of the session, opposing the resolution for dialogue over special status.
