Arun Joshi Gupkar Road
Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is being shifted from Hari Niwas, designated as subsidiary jail, to a bungalow on Gupkar Road soon, but his detention that has entered sixth month, however, will continue.
Omar will be shifted to a house on Gupkar Road, a posh locality where who’s who of J&K reside. He will not be shifted to his own bungalow that was allotted to him as a former Chief Minister, but to some other bungalow on Gupkar Road. Three-time Chief Minister and currently sitting member of Parliament Farooq Abdullah and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti are the two other Chief Ministers in detention since August 5. Officials, however, did not explain why Omar is being shifted to some other place.
One of the persons close to these leaders said it was uncertain as to when these leaders would be released. Meanwhile, it has been learnt reliably that the government had tried to work on Omar Abdullah to mollify him and accept the changed constitutional and geographical position of J&K. Some emissaries, close to him, also tried to prevail over him, but the National Conference leader has reported to have listened to the visitors, but did not give out his mind.
