Senior National Conference leader and MLA Kangan Mian Altaf Ahmed today said that the previous PDP-BJP government took the decision of implementing the National Food Security Act (NFSA) in haste.

Mian Altaf during his visit to various areas of Kangan constituency for second day today met various people who apprised him about the hardships and miseries faced by them in view of non-availability of essential commodities particularly after NFSA implementation.

In a statement, Mian Altaf said that the implementation of the National Food Security Act (NFSA) should not deprive any individual or family of the existing quota of ration being availed by them.

Mian Altaf said that as there is a genuine apprehension that a large  section of people would get deprived of the existing scale of ration in the State, adding that the then government implemented it without sorting out the shortfalls and shortcomings so that the people do not suffer on this count.

“Despite increase in the population, the government instead of increasing the ration quota has decreased it to starve people of the State. Though rice is the staple food of Kashmiris but the previous government added to peoples’ miseries by reducing the quota,” he said.

Mian Altaf urged the Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra to re-consider the NFSA implementation decision “in the interest of a large section of people”.(Agencies)
