The Civil Society of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district took out a candlelight protest against the killing of seven civilians by militants at Gangangir on Sunday.
Seven people including a local doctor and six non-local workers were killed in a militant attack at a construction site at Gagangir near the tourist resort of Sonamarg in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Sunday evening.
The civil society Kupwara took to the streets late Monday evening and held a candlelight vigil to denounce the civilian killings.
The protesting members collectively denounced the killings, which they believe are against the spirit of humanity.
As a mark of protest, the Civil Society Kupwara held a Candlelight March from Bus stand Kupwara, passed through by-pass Kupwara, culminating at martyr’s memorial Rigipora, expressing their sympathies with the families of the innocent civilians of the target killings by militants.
The protesters denounced the attack and expressed solidarity with the families of the civilians killed.
“Killing of innocent civilians is the biggest crime, and the perpetrators must be punished for their actions. It’s against the ethos of humanity,” protesters said.
