Berlin/New Delhi, May 2 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a bilateral meeting on Monday with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, ahead of the sixth round of the Biennial Inter Governmental Consultations (IGC) between India and Germany.
The Prime Minister was accorded a ceremonial guard of honour and received by Chancellor Scholz at the Federal Chancellery. The two leaders thereafter met in one-on-one format followed by delegation level talks.
The discussions covered key areas of bilateral cooperation under the overall strategic partnership, as well as regional and global developments, an official statement said.
The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi, in tweets, said:
“For growth and resilience.
For mobility and prosperity.
For a greener and sustainable future.
For an open and peaceful Indo-Pacific.
The 6th edition of the India-Germany Inter-Governmental Consultations gets underway.”
On the bilateral discussion between the two leaders, he said:
“PM @narendramodi and @Bundeskanzler Olaf Scholz begin bilateral discussions.
“This is their first engagement since Chancellor Scholz assumed office in December 2021.
“The momentum of high level exchanges with our Strategic Partner continues.”
On the tete-a-tete between the two, which lasted quite a while, with the two leaders also standing on the balcony for a while to talk, without aides, he tweeted:
“A quick tête-à-tête between the two leaders PM @narendramodi and
@Bundeskanzler Olaf Scholz before the IGC commences.
“Leaders continuing their conversation”, he tweeted later, with a photo of the two leaders talking on the balcony.
