Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday held a telephonic conversation with the Amir of the State of Kuwait, His Highness Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al Sabah, to discuss the evolving security situation in West Asia amid growing regional tensions.
According to an official statement, the two leaders exchanged views on recent developments in the region and emphasized the importance of restoring peace and stability through diplomatic means. During the conversation, Modi voiced India’s concerns over the escalating situation and reaffirmed the country’s firm support for Kuwait’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
”Prime Minister expressed deep concern over the escalation of tensions and reaffirmed India’s strong condemnation of attacks on Kuwait’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” the government release said.
The Prime Minister stressed the need for restraint and reiterated India’s consistent position that dialogue and diplomacy are the most effective pathways to resolving conflicts and preventing further deterioration of the security environment.
”Prime Minister reiterated the call for de-escalation, dialogue and diplomacy for earliest restoration of peace and stability,” the statement added.
The discussion also highlighted the close and enduring partnership between India and Kuwait, particularly the strong people-to-people ties fostered by the large Indian diaspora living and working in the Gulf nation. Modi expressed gratitude to the Kuwaiti leadership for its continued support and care for the Indian community amid the prevailing regional uncertainties.
”Prime Minister thanked His Highness the Amir for his personal attention to the continued well-being and the safety of the large Indian community in Kuwait,” the release noted.
India and Kuwait enjoy longstanding bilateral relations spanning trade, energy cooperation and cultural exchanges.
Kuwait hosts a substantial Indian expatriate population, making the welfare and security of Indian nationals a key aspect of engagement between the two countries.
The conversation took place against the backdrop of heightened tensions in West Asia, which have prompted calls from countries across the world for restraint, diplomatic engagement and collective efforts to prevent further escalation and ensure lasting regional peace.
