Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to visit Srinagar on March 7, which will be his first visit to Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370.

Official sources said that Modi would attend an official meeting at Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) here on March 7 and may also address a rally at the same venue.

“PM is likely to address a rally at the SKICC and the arrangements have started,” they said, adding that “ the rally will provide the residents an opportunity to hear the Prime Minister on various issues.”

A senior BJP leader said technicalities of the programe were being finalized .

“The Kashmir unit of the party is pushing for a rally in Anantnag . However, no final decision has been made on this matter as of now,” he said.

Last week, PM visited Jammu where he addressed a public rally, laid the foundation stone of multiple projects worth over Rs 32,000 crore in J&K and also launched the first electric train.

While Modi has visited Jammu thrice during his second term as PM, he has not visited Kashmir once during this period.

The visit of the PM to Kashmir will come days ahead of the Election Commission of India (ECI) likely visit to assess the possibility of simultaneous conduct of Assembly election along with Lok Sabha polls in Jammu and Kashmir.
