New Delhi, (UNI): Several Supreme Court lawyers on Monday received automated pre recorded threatening calls from a United Kingdom number asking them not to handle the cases related to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s security lapse in Punjab.
It’s worthwhile to mention that the calls were made allegedly by pro-Khalistan outfit Sikhs For Justice (SFJ) just before the scheduled hearing in the case on Monday.
According to the lawyers, the caller claimed the responsibility of blocking the convoy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Hussainiwala flyover in Firozpur, Punjab and alleged that the SC was yet to take action against the perpetrators of the 1984 Sikh riots.
The Supreme Court Advocates on Record Association has requested the government to take immediate action in the case.
“I received two calls from a UK number around 10:30 am and 12:30 pm. The caller threatened Supreme Court judges to refrain from hearing the petition regarding security lapse of Prime Minister Modi. This is a serious issue and I demand Home Ministry to take action. Several Advocates on Records have received such messages,” Supreme Court lawyer Vishnu Jain told UNI confirming the incident.
Sources in the intelligence establishment confirmed the development to UNI independently. The lawyers have also approached the Commissioner of Delhi Police in the case.
The Supreme Court has ordered a probe headed by a retired judge into the PM security lapse incident and asked the Centre and the Punjab government to hold off on their probes for now.
