Police on Wednesday arrested a person who allegedly tried to molest a girl after providing her lift in his car in Srinagar.
Police identified the accused as Uzair Hameed, a resident of Daulatabad Khanyar who was arrested and his car was also seized.
Police Station Rainawari received a written application from a lady that she took a lift in a car near Bishamber Nagar Khanyar, only to be dropped at Botkadal Lal Bazar but while on the move the car driver tried to molest her and when she resisted the accused forced her out of the car near Badmawari resulting in injuries to the lady.
A case was registered under sections 342, 366, 354 and 307 of Indian Penal Code in Police Station Rainawari and investigation of the case was set into motion.
Police said during the investigation, CCTV footages were minutely examined and the accused was zeroed in and later arrested.
“During the monitoring CCTV footages, the accused was apprehended by Police Station Rainawari within the shortest period of time,” a police spokesman said.
