Police in Budgam district of Jammu and Kashmir have registered an FIR against a constable of the Border Security Force (BSF) after the recovery of approximately 2.3 kilograms of suspected contraband substance from his quarter in Humhama.
The FIR was registered on Sunday at Police Station Budgam under Sections 8/20 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act following a formal complaint lodged by BSF Kashmir Frontier Headquarters, Humhama.
According to the complaint, a search was conducted on specific input by a team of senior BSF officers on March 28 during evening hours at the quarter allotted to a Constable (General Duty) of 112 Battalion BSF.
During the search operation, a suspected contraband substance was recovered from the premises.
Officials said the search was carried out in the presence of the accused, during which the team recovered around 2.3 kilograms of suspected ganja along with an Android mobile phone with a SIM card from the quarter.
Following the recovery, the BSF authorities approached Jammu and Kashmir Police, which subsequently registered an FIR in the matter and initiated investigation.
The accused constable, a resident of Watergam in Wagoora area of Baramulla district, is currently under investigation. Police sources said further probe is underway to ascertain the source of the contraband and any possible links.
