Hurriyat Conference (G) on Wednesday rejected the probe ordered by the government into the killing of two civilians at Pulwama on Sunday, saying such moves have become a tradition.
An engineering student, Danish Farooq of Ratnipora and Shaista Hameed, who was pursuing MA in Urdu, were killed and 13 others suffered bullet or pellet injuries after the forces opened fire on hundreds of protesters in Lelhar village in the south Kashmir district.
A militant died during a gunfight before the protests erupted, while two others were helped in their escape by the protesters who threw stones the government forces.
The state government has ordered an enquiry into the incident.
In a statement issued here, Hurriyat (G) said, “These kinds of commissions have become a tradition.”
On the Indian prime minister Narandra Modi’s visit to Kashmir a few months ago, it said, the deputy commandant of CRPF killed engineering student Gowhar Nazir Dar at HMT, Zainakote, here.
“An enquiry commission was announced in that case, but till now neither this probe showed any result nor has any accused been arrested.”
The conglomerate said only independent institutions can probe the incidents.
“A reason behind the failure of these probes ordered by the local administration is black laws like AFSPA and DAA, which provide impunity to the armed forces against prosecution in the civil courts.
“This situation has provided a licence to the Indian army and the police to openly kill the people whenever and wherever they want. They use this licence in an effective way.”
Terming National Conference’s outcry and PDP’s silence over the Pulwama killings as their vote bank politics, Hurriyat (G) said: “Out of power, NC suddenly starts to feel the pain of people. But in government, 2010-like incidents happen with no regret at all.
“The PDP tried its best to befool the simple Kashmiri people by raising pro-Kashmir slogans, but they too have now got completely exposed in the public and they have shown their real face to the nation.”(Agencies)
