A motorcyclist cop was killed on the spot when his bike rammed into a stationary combine on the roadside near Village Khurampur on Phagwara-Hoshiarpur road in the wee hours of Thursday.

The deceased, identified as Sukhdev Singh of village Chajjal near Baba Bakala, was an ASI of the Phagwara police, presently posted at Rawalpindi police station, and was coming to Phagwara on his bike.

The accident occurred when the deceased suddenly lost control of the bike, could not notice the stationary combine, and rammed into the combine.

SP Gurpreet Singh said the deceased was coming to Phagwara to board a bus for Chandigarh as he was to attend a court evidence case in the High Court.

However, the body of the deceased was handed over to his family members after a post-mortem conducted in a local civil hospital.

In another incident, an unidentified middle-aged man was run over by a running train near Phagwara railway station last night.

GRP Incharge Gurbheij Singh said that it could not be ascertained yet whether the deceased was run over while crossing the railway lines or if it was a suicide or other mysterious case.

However, the GRP has kept the body in the mortuary of a civil hospital for identification after post-mortem.
