Chandigarh, Jan 7 (UNI) Following the directions of the Supreme Court, the two-member high-level committee constituted by the Punjab government to look into the alleged security lapse during the Prime Minister’s visit to Punjab, has decided to put on hold all its proceedings till further directions from the apex court.
The Supreme Court on Friday asked the Committees of both the Centre and Punjab to hold their hands in proceeding with any inquiry relating to the Prime Minister’s visit to Punjab till the next date of hearing on Monday.
Meanwhile, earlier in the morning before the Supreme Court’s directions, a three-member team, set up by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), to inquire into the breach of the Prime Minister’s security during his visit to Punjab, arrived in Ferozepur and started its investigations.
The team drove to the BSF sector headquarters in Ferozepur where they met with the senior civil and police officers who were directly responsible to ensure smooth passage and foolproof security for the Prime Minister.
The team also visited the flyover on Ferozepur-Moga highway where the Prime Minister’s convoy remained stranded for almost 20 minutes on January 5.
The MHA team is headed by Sudhir Kumar Saxena, Secretary (Security) in the Cabinet Secretariat and includes Intelligence Bureau Joint Director Balbir Singh and SPG IG S Suresh as its members.
The team summoned several senior police and civil officials, who were deployed for the PM’s security during his visit to Ferozepur.
Meanwhile, an FIR has been registered by the Punjab Police against unidentified protesters who blocked the Prime Minister’s convoy on Wednesday.
