Rape accused sentenced to 20 years RI by Balasore POCSO court

Special Judge POCSO court Ranjan Kumar Sutar on Wednesday convicted a rape accused and sentenced him to undergo 20 year of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 40000.


In default of the fine, the convict would further undergo another 2 years of rigorous imprisonment, the judge ordered.


The convict Akash Malick of village Chhanua under Basta police station was arrested by police following a complaint by the father of the victim in May 2022.


In his complaint, the man alleged his daughter was kidnapped on the way to her college in Balasore and sexually assaulted by the accused.


“The accused is convicted under 6 of the POCSO act as it was proved that he committed repeated sexual assault against the victim.


The court pronounced the verdict after examining 11 witnesses and 21 exhibits.
The court further ordered Rs 4 lakh compensation for the victim to be paid through the district legal services authority (DLSA),” Special Public Prosecutor Pranab Panda said.
