Seven runs required off the last over with just one wicket left. Kedar Jadhav who was injured during the second innings, walked out to bat in the last over to ensure a win for the Super Kings.
Chennai Super Kings’ skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and put Mumbai into bat. Deepak Chahar provided an early breakthrough by dismissing Evin Lewis for a duck off the first ball of the third over.
Rohit Sharma (15) was also sent back to the pavilion by Shane Watson.
With the scorecard reading 20/2, Ishan Kishan (40) and Suryakumar Yadav (43) put on a 78-run stand laying a foundation for Mumbai.
After the dismissal of both the batsmen, the Pandya brothers put on a 52-run stand taking Mumbai’s total to 165/4 in 20 overs. Krunal was unbeaten on 41 (22), while Hardik scored a 20-ball 22 not out.
Shane Watson picked up two wickets while Deepak and Imran Tahir bagged a wicket apiece.
Chasing 169, the Super Kings kept losing wickets at regular intervals and were reduced to 118/8 in 16.3 overs. That was when Bravo scored a match turning 30-ball 68, striking three fours and seven sixes at a strike rate of 226.67, steading the CSK ship.
27 required off the last two overs, Jasprit Bumrah had the ball in his hand to bowl the penultimate over. Bravo unleashed his beast mode in that over, as he smashed three sixes and scored 20 runs off the first five balls. But Bumrah dismissed Bravo off the last ball.
7 off 6 now. An injured Jadhav walked out to bat. All eyes were on him. Mustafizur Rahman ran in to bowl the last over. No runs in the first three balls. Pressure was building on the Super Kings.
Jadhav scooped the ball all the way over short fine leg for a six and the fans erupted in joy. One off one required, Jadhav belted the ball over cover for a boundary and helped Super Kings mark their return in style – Thirumbi Vandhutom nu Sollu!
