The Supreme Court on Wednesday ordered a CBI probe into the unnatural death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput.
A Bench of Justice Hrishikesh Roy ordered the Mumbai Police to hand over all evidence collected so far in the case to the CBI.
The top court said the Bihar government was competent to transfer the investigation to the CBI.
The FIR registered at Patna was correct, said the SC.
“The Maharashtra government must comply and assist the central agency in the probe,” directed the Supreme Court.
The CBI was free to register a fresh case, if required, said Justice Hrishikesh Roy.

Senior advocate Vikas Singh, who represented Sushant Singh’s family in the Supreme Court, said the court has used its inherent power as it felt the CBI probe was the right way forward in the case.
Actor Rhea Chakraborty, Sushant Singh Rajput’s girlfriend, had asked the Supreme Court to transfer the FIR or First Information Report registered by his family in Patna to Mumbai.
On June 14, Sushant Singh Rajput, 34, was found dead in his Mumbai apartment.
The Mumbai Police said it was a suicide, adding that he was suffering from depression.
More than a month later, Sushant Singh Rajput’s father KK Singh filed a case in Bihar accusing Rhea Chakraborty and her family harassing him mentally and financially. -TNS
