Security forces have launched extensive search operations in the upper reaches of Doda and Kishtwar districts following inputs about suspicious movement in the region.
Sources said intelligence agencies alerted about the movement of some suspicious element in the Balara forest of Puneja in Chirala area of Doda district. Acting swiftly, the Indian Army, J&K Police, and CRPF rushed to the spot and the operation has been underway since Thursday.
Simultaneously, another search operation was launched in the Bharat area of Doda after reports of terrorist presence in Keshwan and Kuntwara belts of neighbouring Kishtwar district, which shares a ridge with Bharat.
The fresh operations come just days after a fierce gunfight in the Guddar forest of Kulgam, where two terrorists and two soldiers were killed. The encounter broke out on Monday after militants opened fire on search parties. The slain soldiers later succumbed to injuries, while efforts are on to establish the identity of the militants.(KINS)
