Residences of three prominent lawyers were among the four locations searched in Srinagar in connection with murder of Advocate Babar Qadri, who was shot dead in 2020.
Police said the searches were conducted during further investigation in the case wherein certain new evidence came up that have the potential to unravel the conspiracy part of the killing.
The houses searched included that of former Kashmir High Court Bar Association president Mian Qayoom, Muzaffar Ahmad and Manzoor Ahmed Dar.
The simultaneous searches were carried out by Srinagar police at four locations, two located in Barzulla area, one in Brein Nishat and one in Maisuma in houses and offices of three lawyers in connection with the killing of Qadri, police statement said.
“All procedures as per due process of law were followed in the searches so conducted in presence of Executive Magistrates. Deputy Superintendent level officers personally supervised and led these searches at all locations,” it added.
Police said digital devices, bank statements, property sale agreements, suspicious books and other relevant material was seized during the searches.
“Further Investigation in this case is in full swing,” police said
Qadri,a lawyer-activist who was a regular on TV debates , was shot dead by suspected militants at his home in Hawal area in old Srinagar on September 24, 2020. Police had constituted a Special Investigation Team to probe the murder.
Police said five accused have been chargesheeted in the case and were facing trial.
