Senior men’ J&K UT Hockey meet commences

Jammu, March 15 (UNI) The Senior Men’s Hockey Championship of Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory on Tuesday here at KK Hakku AstroTurf Hockey Stadium.

Secretary, J&K Sports Council, Nuzhat Gul, declared open the annual Championship, which could not be organized by the Hockey J&K in 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Total 20 teams including 10 from Kashmir Division teams will be participating in the championship.

Gul in her address said that Hockey is reaching every nook and corner of the Union Territory and will surely benefit the hockey enthusiasts of future generations. “Khelo India project of The Government of India has been successfully taken up and the centers across the UT are expected to work as per Khelo India organization norms and the local populace,” she said.

Showering praise on President, Hockey J&K, Rajeev Sharma, she said that he has played a key role in promoting sports especially Hockey and assured all the sports associations that the Sports Council will extend best possible help to promote this sector.

On the opening day of the Championship, four matches were played in which Jammu West defeated Bandipora, Jammu University defeated Pulwama and Kathua defeated Kulgam. In the next matches on Wednesday, Ganderbal will meet Srinagar, Kupwara to meet Jammu East, Shopian with Udhampur and Budgam to meet Jammu South.

Riyaz Ahmad, Administrative Officer, Officer of J&K Sports Council was the guest of honour while Ashok Singh Jamwal, Divisional Sports Officer with all other coaches and staff was present on the opening day.
