Shutdown In Nishat Against LAWDA

A complete is being observed in Nishat area of Srinagar today against Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA) for not allowing the residents to raise the height of their houses.

Shops and business establishments in Nishat area are closed while public transport was off the roads.

A local resident told media that they were protesting against the "deplorable Behaviour" of the LAWDA officials Who were not allowing them to raise the height of their buildings.

They said that they will also hold protest rally against the department after Friday congregational prayers. 

“Despite several pleads, the authority’s reluctance forced us to observe shutdown. We will take to streets if our demands are not met,” they said. 

Vice-Chairman (VC), LAWDA, Sarmad Hafeez told media that they won’t allow anyone to raise their buildings in the non-permissible zone. “The High Court has ordered us to demolish the buildings constructed within the prohibited areas but some miscreants resist the officials for conducting the process, which is the only cause behind the protests,” Hafeez said.

He said that permission will only be granted to genuine cases.(Agencies)
