Singer Rahul Deshpande on Wednesday expressed shock over the death of veteran art director Nitin Desai, and said he would be remembered for his vision, dedication and creativity.

“Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined to hear this news. It is difficult to believe and will take time for it to sink in,” said Deshpande.

Desai was found hanging from the ceiling fan at his studio in Karjat, 80 km from Mumbai.

“I remember my first meeting with Nitin Sir at his studio. Nana Patekar Sir introduced me to him regarding the set designing for Vasantotsav. We worked together on the set designs of 2 Vasantotsavs wherein he designed larger-than-life magnificent sets which people talk about even today,” said Deshpande.

“His vision, his dedication, and his creativity were unparalleled,” he said.

Deshpande said he also owed his acting endeavour to Desai.

“He watched me perform a small scene for the movie ‘Bal Gandharva’ and applauded my acting abilities, boosting my confidence to venture into making ’Me Vasantrao’. He was a warm and caring person and his death is not just a loss to the design and film industry but to us all who have lost a father figure,” he said.
