SRINAGAR: At least 6 families became homeless this morning after massive fire engulfed Maharajpora area of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
According to locals fire broke in the wee hours on Saturday which rapidly expanding to the nearby houses resulting in complete damage of 4 residential houses while two other houses were partially damaged in the fire
Eyewitnesses said that once the news spread in the area people in large number especially youth reached to the spot and started rescue operation, carrying water in buckets and other utensils to douse the rising flames. However, their efforts failed to yield any results till the fire spread in the locality.
They said the fire was brought under control after a team of fire service department and police reached the spot and doused off the fire.
Families along with locals have appealed government to provide immediate compensation to the affected families.
The households who lost their houses include Bilal Ahmad Malla son of Wali Mohammad Malla, Javaid Ahmad Malla,Gh Nabi Malla son of Gh Mohammad Malla, Mohammad Yousuf Malla son of Ali Mohammad Malla,Nazir Ahmad Malla Gh Mohammad Malla,Mohd Sahban Malla son of Gh Mohammad Malla, all residents of Maharajpora.
A case in this regard has been registered and investigation taken up. (PTK)
