The Srinagar International airport has got an automated vehicle parking management system, Airport Director Javed Anjum said on Wednesday .

The new system would be implemented at the airport from Thursday.

As a pan India policy, the Airports Authority of India, is coming up with an advanced automated parking system, specially designed to enhance the parking experience of passengers and visitors, while minimising human interference.

Srinagar airport is one of the busiest airports in the county and over the last few months has been handling passengers over its capacity. The airport has the capacity to handle nearly 7000 passengers.

The introduction of an automated vehicle parking system is going to help the passengers.

“The main feature of automated parking system is inherently designed with reasonable and logical tariffs calculated on the basis of dwell time which will make it fair and transparent. The system will have time stamping at four designated points within the Airport and Parking to enhance accountability and ensure accuracy,” said Airport Director.

He said the vehicle will be mapped at entry point and will be allowed a reasonable time of 14 minutes to enter the Airport for drop off / pick up of passengers.

“If the vehicle doesn’t cross Airport Exit within free time of 14 minutes, it will be charged 1st slab of parking fee i.e, Rs 40/-. However there is no free time for commercial vehicles,” he added.

Further, if the vehicle enters parking area of the Airport, the charges will be applicable based on the time spent in parking. The permissible free time from parking exit to Airport exit will be 5 minutes. Further to enhance convenience and to provide seamless experience, the parking system will be integrated with Fastag Technology allowing for quicker exits, Anjum added.
