Srinagar shut in JKLF founder’s death anniversary

Srinagar, (UNI): Parts of Srinagar observed a shutdown on Friday on the death anniversary of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) founder Mohammad Maqbool Bhat, officials said here.

 

Bhat was hanged on February 11, 1984 at the Tihar Central Jail in New Delhi and buried in the prison.

Shops and business establishments remained shut in the old city and Maisuma area. Life was normal in the Civil Lines area. Transport plied normally in Srinagar.

A large deployment of security forces was made in sensitive areas.
The old city had on February 9 also observed a shutdown on the death anniversary of Afzal Guru, a Kashmiri separatist who was convicted for his role in the 2001 Indian Parliament attack.

There was no shutdown in major towns of the valley on Friday.
