President of Ghatak-Dalal Nirmul Committee Journalist Shahriar Kabir said that a commission was formed with the then ACC Commissioner Shahabuddin as its chairman to investigate the human rights violations and abuses against minorities that took place during the tenure of BNP-Jamaat coalition government in Bangladesh from 2001 to 2005.

Speaking with UNI Kabir said that the Awami League government has not yet published the report of that commission. The current Awami League government is protecting the interests of pro-Pakistani Jamaat-BNP, who have taken the side of Pakistan, committing crimes against humanity in 1971.

Shahriar Kabir said, “We have completed 50 years of our independence. We cannot accept the rule of Pakistani puppets in this independent sovereign Bangladesh. If not, how can a Bangladeshi newspaper worked against our independence and sovereignty on March 26, Independence Day? Because they know that if they write this, they will get the support of Jamaat-BNP and anti-government forces. They have been working with this kind of plan. There have been many protests in the country regarding the activities of that newspaper in the past days too.”

Shahriar Kabir said the news published by the Prothom Alo on Independence Day cannot be called only unjournalism or yellow journalism. Through this, the dignity of our freedom has been hurt. We don’t know the language to condemn the way in which a news story is planned on Independence Day. This news is done very purposefully. Conspiracy is continuously going on against the independence of Bangladesh.

He demanded to the government that strict laws should be enacted to immediately punish those who insult the country’s independence.

He said, I love the country, so I love its liberation war. I do not want any blow to the spirit of the liberation war. We demand that Prothom Alo be blacklisted and its registration canceled for what Prothom Alo has done.

Shahriar Kabir said we want the government to take appropriate measures against such evil forces, urging the government to take legal action against all the newspapers and those associated with evil forces in Bangladesh.

He mentioned that the strong speech and presence of various social and cultural organizations in the human chain at the Central Shaheed Minar recently will help prevent such evil forces.

Shahriar Kabir said the Bangladesh government should take strict action against those media, which is acting as the spokesperson of Pakistanis.

It should be noted that on Independence Day on March 26, the widely circulated newspaper of Bangladesh Prothom Alo published a news report about the independence of Bangladesh.

The report created a negative impact between the ruling party and the civil society of Bangladesh. Then a demand was raised to punish the editor of Prothom Alo Matiur Rahman and blacklisting the daily and cancelling its registration.
