Srinagar: Clashes rocked Nowgam area of Srinagar after a class 10 student was killed and a girl critically injured after a police vehicle collided with a private vehicle in the area on Tuesday morning. Two others sustained fire-arm injuries after police resorted to aerial firing in the area to disperse the protestors.
The slain boy, was identified as Tehseen Nazir, a class 10 student of Candid Public School. The injured girl, was identified as Haleema, a resident of Chatergam, Budgam area of Central Kashmir.
Haleema, according to eye-witnesses, was on way to a private office in Srinagar, when she was hit by the police vehicle. She was admitted at SKIMS Bemina where she is being treated for multiple fractures and a liver injury.
Eye-witnesses told wire service—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that a police vehicle, the drive of which was driving the vehicle very fast, collided with a private vehicle Alto K-10 bearing number, JK01 AK 4408 that was parked on a road side at Nowgam.
“Tehseen was going for tuitions when an over-speeding police vehicle first hit the private vehicle Alto and later hit him badly. He fell down and was bleeding profusely from mouth. He was immediately removed to SMHS hospital where he was declared brought dead,” an eye-witness said.
Soon after the incident, massive clashes broke in the area with youth hitting the streets in protest against the killing of the teenage boy, who is the son of a tea maker Nazir Ahmed, a resident of Nowgam, Srinagar. Police resorted to aerial firing to disperse the protestors, who were demanding action against the erring driver.
“While quelling the protestors, two sustained injuries and were taken to Bone and Joints Hospital Srinagar,” witnesses told KNO. A doctor at the Bone and Joints Hospital confirmed that two injured with fire-arm injuries were admitted in the hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, a police spokesman in a statement to KNO, said that a traffic mishap occurred at Nowgam area in the outskirts of Srinagar resulting in injuries to two persons. “The road traffic accident happened when two vehicles one of which belonged to Armed Police collided and consequently two persons sustained injuries.
The injured persons were shifted to hospital for the treatment of injuries however one of the injured persons identified as Tehseen Nazir of Nowgam succumbed while the other injured person continues to receive treatment at the hospital and is stated to be stable,” the police spokesman said.
