Kupwara: The absence of teaching staff at various colleges across Kashmir especially in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district here has left  hundreds of students to lurch at large with authorities concerned failed to have taken steps in this regard.

According to wire service—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), even as the schools and colleges reopened after winter break, the students who joined back their colleges here have failed to attend all the classes due to the dearth of teaching staff, students said.

The absence of teaching staff comes after the engagement of teachers ended as contractual teachers. However, the authorities concerned have not issued any notification or re-engagement of contractual teachers, thus halting academics of students.

Several college going students including girls across north Kashmir complained about the dearth of faculty members in College that forces them to attend either one or two classes in a day.

The college students including those enrolled at Degree College Sogam, Model Women’s College, Boys Degree College and Handwara College were disappointed and demanded immediate fulfillment of their demands.

Subsequently, students from southern districts including students from Boys Degree College Anantnag also complained of inadequate teaching staff, saying that they are facing immense hardships in absence of the teachers.

They said that it seems that authorities are totally non-serious over the academic loss suffered by the students across Valley due to the closure of educational institutions for almost seven months.

The students later appealed the authorities concerned to take apt measures at the earliest so that the students could heave a sigh of relief.

Despite repeated attempts, Director Colleges, Muhammad Yaseen couldn’t be contacted for the comments as his phone number was switched off
