National Conference leader and Member Parliament Ruhullah Mehdi on Tuesday said that he was sure that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah would address the political issue through the legislature and assembly.

The first session of the new Assembly is scheduled to begin on November 4.

In a letter to the Chief Minister, MP Mehdi emphasized the importance of honoring the people’s mandate and aligning government actions with the aspirations of citizens.

“As you embark on this journey, it is crucial to respect the people’s mandate and to align your government’s actions with the aspirations of the citizens,” the MP said “In this regard, while I am sure that you will address the political issue through the legislature/ assembly.”

Mehdi also outlined a series of policy recommendations that he believes would significantly enhance the welfare of Jammu and Kashmir’s citizens.

Mehdi underscored the need for immediate action on several key issues, starting with the release of prisoners held without trial.

“This urgent matter deserves priority, as it reflects a commitment to justice and the rule of law, which would resonate deeply with those who value fairness,” he stated.

He also called for a rationalization of recent reservation policies, suggesting a balanced approach that would support deserving sections of society without compromising open merit. “Rationalizing these policies can foster social equity and inclusiveness,” Mehdi added.

Employment generation was another priority Mehdi addressed, urging the swift filling of government vacancies to reduce unemployment and bolster the local economy.

Additionally, he highlighted the importance of addressing high electricity tariffs, particularly with winter approaching, suggesting that reducing tariffs and ensuring stable electricity supply would significantly ease the burden on families facing harsh weather conditions.

Mehdi advocated for a more balanced verification process for government applicants, calling the current procedures “overly harsh” and suggesting a fairer approach that avoids penalizing individuals for uncommitted actions.

“Your leadership has the potential to pave the way for a progressive and just administration,” Mehdi concluded.
