World No. 2 Iga Swiatek of Poland advanced to the semifinals of the China Open after rallying from one set down to beat Caroline Garcia of France 6-7 (8), 7-6 (5), 6-1 here on Friday.
Swiatek, who was looking to reach her 11th semifinal of the year, held all her serves and broke Garcia twice in the final set to win the 155-minute match.
Garcia, seeded ninth, was in top form in the first two sets as she fired 14 aces and broke Swiatek’s serves twice.
But the French player’s game collapsed in the third set before the combative Swiatek, who made only one unforced error in that set, came back to win the match.
In the semifinals, Swiatek will take on the winner between the third seed Coco Gauff of the United States and Maria Sakkari of Greece.
