‘Committee headed by CS to appoint chairperson, members of SWRRA’
Srinagar: The Government of Union Territory Jammu & Kashmir has set-up a high-level committee headed by chief secretary to appoint head and members of State Water Resources Regulatory Authority (SWRRA).
According to wire service—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the five-member panel would also comprise of administrative secretaries of Finance, Planning, PHE and Law departments.
The recommendations of the panel will be placed before administrative council headed by Lieutenant Governor G.C. Murmu which would take a final call on the appointments. The key positions in SWRRA became vacant after the government decided to re-constitute statutory bodies, citing re-organisation of J&K.
Before bifurcation of J&K, the panel was headed by Pramod Jain( former IAS officer). Its members were Kaneez Fatima ( former judge) and Ravi Magotra( former Director General Budget and Director General Accounts & Treasuries).
They were appointed during the PDP-BJP rule on recommendations of the selection panel headed by then Chief Secretary B.B. Vyas. Set-up in 2012 during the NC- Congress rule, the SWWRA is competent to fix water usage charges for different purposes including generation of electricity.
Earlier this month, the government appointed Shafiq Raina( retired IAS officer) as head of Board of Professional Entrance Examinations.He was appointed for a period of two years or until he attains the age of 65 years, whichever is earlier, an official order said.
