Srinagar: Doctors Association Kashmir on Friday approached the Prime Ministers Narendra Modi seeking action against deputy commissioner Bandipora, Shahbaz Ahmad Mirza for his unruly behavior with some medical officers of Hajin on Thursday.

As per wire service—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the DAK president Dr. Suhail Naik has written a letter to PM Modi seeking exemplary action against DC Bandipora for abusing some medical officers over phones yesterday.

In a letter addressed to PM Modi, Dr. Naik has said that the behavior of the said officer could prove more dangerous than COVID-19 as he was brazenly misusing his administrative powers against the front line warriors in the district.

On Thursday, the medical staff went on a strike for about two hours alleging that DC Bandipora abused one of their colleagues over the phone.

The medical staff also held a silent protest, demanding action against DC Bandipora for his unruly behavior. “With reference to the above-mentioned subject, it is pertinent to mention here that doctors all over the country are discharging their professional duties and services to the nation with their best possible capacity and capability.

Though we are professionally and ethically bound to serve the humanity, but these are the extraordinary testing times in our professional career where we are on the forefront in fighting an invisible enemy (COVID-19),” reads the letter addressed to PM Modi by DAK.

It reads “Sir, taking no cue from this venture of your good self one of District Commissioners posted at district Bandipore Kashmir is day in and out misbehaving with front line health officials and is brazenly misusing his administrative powers. The unparliamentary abnormal eccentric behavior of said official ultimately forced our front line health workers to go for unprecedented strike.”

It further reads, “The strike by front line health workers generated panic and fear psychosis among common masses as the said area is one of the hotspots for COVID-19 in Kashmir Division.”

“It is imperative to mention here that these front line warriors resumed their duties within two hours while recognizing their responsibilities during these testing times when whole humanity is suffering. Sir, this abnormal behavior of the said official is unacceptable and can prove more destructive and devastating than COVID-19,” the letter reads.

It further reads, “The officer is trying to choke professional independence of astute physicians and is interfering even in management and treatment decisions. Administrative interference in following the laid down protocols is totally unacceptable to doctors fraternity. It is humiliating and interference in our professional independence.”

The DAK has requested the Prime Minister to suspend the duties of such officer in the larger interest of public and for upholding, sustaining morale of front line health workers.

Talking to KNO, DAK president Dr. Suhail Naik said that they have written a letter to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi so that action must be taken against the concerned officer for humiliating and abusing frontline workers even in these testing times.

He said that doctors wont tolerate such kind of behavior from an administrative officer and they would go to any extent to seek action against the said officer. “I will write to UN and WHO to seek action against this officer. His behaviour was totally uncalled for.”—(KNO)
