Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao, Telangana State CPI Secretary and MLA, vehemently condemned the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
Addressing the media here on Friday, Rao accused Prime Minister Modi of undermining democracy, stating that the arrest of Kejriwal is a testament to this.
He called upon the Supreme Court to intervene and take suo moto cognizance of the illegal income received through BJP’s electoral bonds.
He criticised the BJP for allegedly subjecting Kejriwal to threats and harassment, expressing dismay at his arrest for refusing to surrender. Rao asserted that the BJP is actively seeking to dismantle opposition forces.
Furthermore, Rao accused the BJP of orchestrating efforts to secure victory in the upcoming general elections, attributing motives such as the conversion of the country into a Hindu state through initiatives like the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). He lamented the failure of the Congress to effectively oppose the BJP and urged for a united front of opposition parties under the India Alliance banner.
Expressing readiness for an alliance with the Congress akin to recent assembly elections, Rao appealed to the Congress to consider allocating at least one seat to the CPI.
He emphasised the importance of a reciprocal approach, highlighting the defeat of BRS by the Congress with the alliance of left parties and advocating for a strategic give-and-take policy.
