Alluding to the upcoming 12th general election in the country, Bangladesh President Md Abdul Hamid has said that elections are the only way to come to power or bring about positive change in the nation.
The President warned that carrying out politics of terror and violence in the name of running a movement can never be beneficial for the economy, society or the country as a whole.
Rather, these activities make the political environment chaotic. “We should all help democracy develop by forgetting conflict and reaching consensus through dialogue”he advised.
He said this at a special session of the 11th general election on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the National Parliament on Friday.
It is everyone’s hope that the people of Bangladesh will impartially exercise their right to vote in the light of the established democratic norms and the great constitution and enrich and speed up the history of democracy in Bangladesh.
He also said the brave sons of the nation have gifted us an independent sovereign country in exchange of lakhs of lives. It is our responsibility to accelerate the progress of this country and nation. Standing in this great national parliament, which is one of the main pillars of the democratic state, today I am calling on the countrymen regardless of party affiliation, let us join together to form a welfare-oriented state away from the beloved motherland, away from conflict and any extremism and destructive activities. We must stand united against any evil forces that threaten democracy.
President Md Abdul Hamid said we have a unique identity on the map of the world as a self-respecting, patriotic nation. That identity must be upheld by our integrity, honesty and diligence. Our thoughts, methods and strategies for the development of the country may be different, but there will be deep unity among us on the question of national interest and patriotism. Not enmity, not conflict of interest; today it’s our task to build the country. We will build a happy-prosperous Bangladesh for future generation, this is the pledge of all of us.
