Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan has welcomed US President Donald Trump’s readiness to help facilitate the resolution of the conflict in Sudan.

On Friday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke with Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan over the phone, discussing the need to achieve a humanitarian ceasefire in Sudan. The UAE Foreign Ministry said in a statement after the talks that the Foreign Minister welcomed statements made by Trump calling for an end to the attacks on civilians and expressing readiness to lead efforts to bring stability to Sudan.

On Wednesday, Trump said the United States would work with Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt, and other Middle Eastern partners to end hostilities in Sudan and stabilize the country amid the ongoing conflict between the regular army and the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

Meanwhile, Sudanese Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office at Geneva Hassan Hamid Hassan told RIA Novosti on Friday that Sudan was counting on Russia’s assistance in rebuilding the country and considers Moscow a reliable partner. Hassan also pointed out that the issue of humanitarian aid is being used by some as a way to exert pressure and meddle in Sudan’s internal affairs.

Fierce fighting between the RSF and the regular army has been ongoing in Sudan since April 2023. In March, the army announced that it had pushed rebels out of the capital, Khartoum. The RSF stepped up attacks in western and southern Sudan in April, declaring the formation of a rival government.

The RSF announced on November 6 that they had agreed to a humanitarian truce as part of an initiative proposed by the United States, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt. The army has not agreed to the proposal in its current form, and fighting has continued.
