A day after the Supreme Court refused to stay the Allahabad High Court’s order directing the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to take up the survey of Gyanvapi complex, the Muslim side came forward to support the survey by opening the locks of mosque compound on Saturday.

Joint secretary of Anjuman Intezamia Masjid Committee along with two lawyers Mumtaz Ahmed and Mohammad Akhlaque joined the survey team in the morning when more than 30 ASI team members entered the mosque complex at around 8 am.

Counsel of the plaintiffs of Hindu side Madan Mohan Yadav said that the caretaker of Gyanvapi mosque Ajaz Ahmad opened the locks of the mosque after which the team entered inside the premises.

It was the second consecutive day of ASI survey of Gyanvapi mosque complex which was held under tight security arrangements. Vehicular movement between Godowlia to Maidagin remained suspended.

The survey which began at 8 am was held till 12:30 pm and after a break it again resumed at 2 pm and continued till 5 pm. Local police along with PAC and RAF were deployed in and around the Gyanvapi mosque complex.

The Intezamia Committee which abstained from the ASI survey on Friday came forward to support the survey and said that it respects and abides by the Supreme Court order which has allowed for ASI survey and didn’t stayed the Allahabad order for ASI survey of Gyanvapi mosque.
