Seven persons were arrested by the police on Wednesday in connection with the murder of a student leader, who was beaten to death in Kotwali area of Ballia district here in Uttar Pradesh, a senior officer said here.
Police sources said that student leader Hemant Yadav and Alok Yadav sustained injuries during clash between students on the gate of Satish Chandra degree college on Monday. “The injured were taken to the district hospital from where Hemant was referred to another hospital. He died at a hospital in Mau district,” they said.
Police sources said that on the complaint of Hemant’s brother the police lodged a named FIR against nine persons under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). “While three teams were constituted by the Superintendent of Police (SP) incharge of Japlinganj police outpost Varun Rakesh was suspended on charges of laxity,” they said.
SP Raj Karan Nayyar said that the clash between students on Tuesday resulted from scuffle between Hemant and Sandeep Singh in the past. “The police have arrested seven accused, including Ritesh Chaurasia, Rohit Chaurasia, Sandeep Singh, Rajdeep Singh, YN Tiwari, Shivaji Pandey and Krishna Tiwari and they have been sent to jail,” he said.
The SP said that the arrested accused include five persons named in the FIR and two others, whose names cropped up during investigation. “Two motorcycles and the cricket bat used in the murder have been recovered. Incharge of Japlinganj outpost has been suspended and a inquiry is being conducted by a gazetted officer,” he said.
