Three children drowned in a village pond in Panwara area of Jaunpur district in Uttar Pradesh on Monday, police sources said here.
The sources said that Ayush (8), a resident of Sarai Bika village, had gone to immerse religious offerings in the village pond on the occasion of Nag Panchami.
“During this, he slipped and started drowning. Seeing this, Satyam alias Sonu (10) and Abhishek (15) also jumped in the pond and they too started drowning,” they said.
Police sources said that after hearing the cries, the villagers rushed to the spot and pulled the children out of the pond in an unconscious state. “The family members took the children to a private practitioner in Machhali Shahar from where they were referred to the district hospital.
The three children died while being taken to the district hospital,” they said.
