Three members of a family were killed when a loaded truck overturned on a hut in the Behta Mujawar area of Unnao district here in Uttar Pradesh, a police officer said on Thursday.

Circle Officer (CO) Bangarmau Arvind Kumar said that a family had been living in a hut near an old police station building for the last several years in the town.

“On Wednesday night around 2 am the truck loaded with rice overturned on the hut,” he said.

He said that Sarala (35), her two sons, Karan (15), and Vicky (13), who were sleeping in the truck, were buried under the truck.

“A rescue operation was launched during which the trio was pulled out and sent to the community health centre, where they were declared dead by the doctors,” he said.

The CO said that the truck driver fled from the spot. “Action is being taken after lodging a report on the complaint of Sarala’s husband, Raj Kumar,” he said.
