UP: Woman killed in tiger attack in Bahraich

A 50-year-old woman was killed in an attack by a tiger in Motipur range of Katarniaghat wildlife division in Bahraich district here in Uttar Pradesh, police sources said here on Wednesday.


Police sources said that Ratti Devi, a resident of Hansulia village, was harvesting wheat in her field on Tuesday late evening when a tiger that came out of the forest dragged the woman from the field. “The body of the woman was recovered from a nearby field after which it was sent for post mortem,” they said.


Sources said that Kailash, a resident of village panchayat Hansulia under Motipur Range of Katarniaghat wildlife division, had planted wheat in his field. “Kailash told the police that his farm is adjacent to the forest. On Tuesday evening while his wife Ratti Devi was harvesting the crop she was attacked by the tiger around 7.30 pm,” they said.


Police sources said that the mutilated body of the woman was recovered from Musir’s farm near Vaidhi forest of the forest range.


Incharge Inspector Mukesh Kumar Singh, Forest Circle Officer (CFO) Mahendra Maurya along with team reached the spot. Police have sent the dead body for post mortem examination.
The CFO said that Rs 10,000 is being given as quick assistance to the dependent of the deceased woman.
